Cantaria - The Cantaria family history

The Cantaria family history

Cantaria was born from a family story.

Here's mine.

Cantaria is a family story born among the olive trees of northern Portugal.

This photo shows a little boy in a striped t-shirt.
It's me, Raul.
Behind me, my grandfather.
Beside me was my mother, with my sister in her arms.
My grandmother is never far away.
My father, on the other hand, is behind the lens. Attentive, discreet.

This image does not simply freeze a memory.
She simply says where I come from.

A family,
A link.
A way of doing things together and passing them on.

Olive oil has always been part of this story.
It was there, on the table, in a family oil mill, all year round.

I wasn't asking myself any questions.
That was our oil.

Cantaria probably begins here

We were leaving from a village in northeastern Portugal, in the heart of Trás-os-Montes.
A bright and demanding region, where work is done quietly, where traditions endure, where authenticity has never needed to be claimed.

And we never left empty-handed.
The family car resumed its journey, loaded with honey, Portuguese preserves, and above all, olive oil from the family olive grove. These products were with us all year round.
They extended Portugal well beyond the journey.

For a long time, I never questioned this oil.
It was only by discovering other olive oils that I understood how unique the olive oil from my grandparents and this region was:

a vibrant, Ardente

An Équilibre of rare roundness.

By having people taste it, one thing became clear: this oil deserved to be shared.

Cantaria was born from this obvious fact.

In this region, cantarias are workshops, most often family-run, where raw granite is transformed into essential objects.

An ancestral know-how where the material dictates the gesture.

time

and accuracy.

This gesture has become our symbol:

to reveal the best of the material,

with respect and high standards.

that's what gesture that cantaria takes its name

Making olive oil is the same dialogue between nature and man. The olive is raw, intense, full of character. It takes time, know-how, and respect for the fruit to extract a living, generous, vibrant oil.

Like stone in the hands of a stonemason, the olive, through the right touch, becomes something essential. A product that accompanies meals, brings people together, and brings sunshine into everyday life.

Cantaria was born to share this rare oil.
A small-scale production, stemming from ancestral know-how, cultivated with respect for nature and its rhythms. Each harvest is handled with meticulous care.
Each oil expresses its terroir, its season, its character.

Cantaria caters to those seeking unique products -
through taste,
through history,
through gesture,
by origin.

An oil shaped by nature, revealed by the hand of man, and designed to be shared.
